 We’re thrilled to share Wyn’s powerful reflection on what it meant to be named a Highly Commended Assistant of the Year Finalist at our 2024 Awards. Her story is a reminder that growth is rarely linear - and that community, courage and recognition can transform a career in the most meaningful ways.

More Than a Finalist: My Journey of Growth with the Strategic PA Network

When I was named a Highly Commended Assistant of the Year Finalist at the 2024 Strategic PA Network Awards, I felt proud - but more than that, I felt seen.

The recognition was a powerful milestone, but it wasn’t the start of my journey, and it certainly wasn’t the end. It marked a turning point in a longer story, one of rediscovering confidence, building strength through community, and stepping more fully into my professional identity.

The Quiet Build-Up to a Bold Moment

Before becoming a finalist, I had already started investing in myself, but I hadn’t fully found my voice. Like many business support professionals, I often worked behind the scenes, quietly making things happen. My role was impactful, but I wasn't always confident in owning my seat at the table.

That started to change when I became more engaged with the Strategic PA Network.

Through events, conversations and shared experiences, I began to realise I wasn’t alone. I was part of a powerful, vibrant community of PAs and EAs who were shaping strategy, influencing culture, and growing into leadership roles. “Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.” - Oprah Winfrey

A Community That Changes Everything

At the heart of this network is a sense of belonging; and that’s no accident. It's the result of vision, passion, and a deep understanding of the role we play as assistants. I want to pay special tribute to Sarah and Marianne, the founders of the Strategic PA Network, whose commitment to elevating the profession has created something truly transformative.

Their work has opened doors for so many of us, not just in terms of opportunity, but in how we see ourselves. They’ve built a space that empowers us to grow, connect, and lead. I’m endlessly grateful for their continued dedication to our community and the standards they’ve set for recognition and excellence.

Growth in All Directions

In 2025, I took another step forward by participating in Finding Your Voice - an event by Her Wealth Network and Scottish Widows. This public speaking workshop with Rachael Grieve and competition helped me step confidently into my power, challenge my comfort zone, gain clarity and articulate my contribution with purpose and conviction.

 It challenged me to stretch beyond comfort, gave me clarity in how I show up, and helped me articulate my contribution with purpose and conviction.

But growth never happens in isolation.

At Benchmark Capital, I’m incredibly fortunate to be part of a culture that genuinely champions development. The People and Culture Team lead the way in creating continuous learning opportunities that stretch, support, and inspire. Their work has been central to my progress.

I also want to recognise the instrumental support of Ed Dymott, our CEO. His leadership has been a powerful force in my development. Inclusive, forward-thinking, dynamic and visionary. Ed leads in a way that brings people with him. His trust and empowerment have given me the space to contribute meaningfully and grow with confidence.

When a leader believes in your potential, it becomes far easier to believe in yourself!

Recognition That Reignited My Direction

Being recognised at the Strategic PA Network Awards gave me more than a title.

It gave me momentum. It validated the growth I had been building internally and professionally.

But more than that, it reminded me that showing up fully, being visible, vocal and proud of the role I play - is not only allowed, it’s essential.

Since then, I have found myself stepping up in new ways: presenting with greater confidence, mentoring others, and advocating more actively for the evolving role of the PA and EA in today’s business world.
