AI Isn’t Optional: Leadership Expectations, Implementation Challenges and the Evolving EA Role

AI is no longer a future conversation. It is already shaping how organisations operate, how decisions are made and how leaders expect to be supported.

This Strategic PA Network Power Hour takes a different lens. Instead of focusing on tools or prompts, we bring you directly into the mindset of senior leadership.

Featuring insights from Lucy Brazier OBE, a leading voice in the assistant profession, Lara Smith, a technology and AI expert in the assistant space, Dave Jones, Fractional Chief Information/Technology Officer and Michelle Dersookiasian, Senior Executive Assistant at McKinsey, this session will explore what is really happening behind the scenes.

You’ll hear honest perspectives on how AI is being implemented at leadership level, the operational and cultural challenges it is creating and where expectations of Executive Assistants are already shifting.

Led by Strategic PA Network leaders Sarah Howson and Marianne Whitlock, this is a candid, strategic conversation about:

·                Why AI capability is quickly becoming a baseline expectation for assistants

·                The headaches, risks and resistance that come with implementation

·                How senior leaders and assistants are approaching AI adoption in real time

·                How EAs can position themselves as informed, credible partners in this space

If you want to understand not just what AI is, but how it is being viewed, used and expected at the top of organisations, this session will give you a perspective you are unlikely to hear elsewhere.

Speakers

Lucy Brazier OBE

I help organisations unlock the full value of their executive support functions. Most leaders know their executive assistants and administrative teams are capable of more. Few know how to make that happen. I do.

Through keynote speeches, training programmes, consultancy, conferences and publishing, I work with administrative professionals of all levels - EAs, Administrative Assistants, ABPs, EBPs, HR leaders and Executives across 60+ countries to transform how organisations understand, structure and develop their administrative talent. If you work in the administrative profession, or you lead people who do, you are in the right place.

What I do

I am the Founder and CEO of Executive Support Media, home of the world’s leading publication, training platform and conference series dedicated to administrative professionals. I am the author of The Modern-Day Assistant: Build Your Influence and Boost Your Potential, winner of the International Career Book of the Year 2024 and recipient of multiple publishing awards. I led the research and authored the Global Skills Matrix 2026, the definitive global career framework for the administrative profession, developed with the World Administrators Alliance. I have delivered keynote speeches and training programmes at 750+ events across 60+ countries, working with 100,000+ assistants globally. Participants include participants from companies as diverse as Apple, Google, JP Morgan, Lego, NATO, the United Nations, Deloitte, Microsoft, the European Central Bank, Buckingham Palace, Amazon and the NHS. In 2021 I was honoured with an OBE for services to Office Professionals.

What I work on

With executive assistants, and administrative professionals at every level: building the skills, confidence and strategic capability to thrive in modern organisations. With executives and HR leaders: rethinking how administrative support functions are structured, so assistants are recognised as operational partners who drive productivity, leadership effectiveness and organisational success.

The bigger picture

For more than 15 years I have been working to change the narrative around this profession. Through research, publishing, training and international events, I have contributed to a global movement reshaping how organisations understand and invest in administrative talent. This is not just career development. It is organisational strategy.

Lara Smith

Hi, I’m Lara, Founder of The Modern VA & The Modern Ops. After 10+ years supporting CEOs, founders, and scaling teams, I saw how much time gets lost to clunky systems and repetitive admin. When I first started learning how AI and automation could help streamline operations, I felt completely overwhelmed. Everything seemed aimed at people who wanted to be tech experts, not busy assistants or business owners just trying to work smarter. But once I realised how powerful these tools could be (when used practically), I knew there had to be a simpler, more human way to teach them. So I built it. Now, we create bite-sized training, resources, and solutions that make AI and automation easy to understand and even easier to apply.

What I do:

Train VAs and ops teams to work faster, smarter, and more strategically

Help small businesses modernise operations, even if you’re a one-person team

Audit workflows → spot automation wins → implement practical fixes

We’re all about people first, tech second. AI isn’t here to replace you, it’s here to amplify what you can do. And if you’re not yet using today’s tools, you’re only giving yourself an unnecessary disadvantage. That’s where we come in to help you catch up, level up, and stay ahead. Work smarter. Scale faster.

Michelle Dersookiasian

I am extremely passionate about my career and genuinely love what I do. My priority is to support my leader achieve their goals and to work closely with them on their journey. Whether it is a start-up or an established business, every journey is exciting, and I am adaptable to both. I have a lot of experience and knowledge that I can bring to any organisation but equally I love to learn, and this genuine passion for learning drives me to continuously grow and adapt.

I am known for my genuine, approachable nature, and my commitment to professionalism and discretion. No task is too big or too small, and I am dedicated to making every journey exciting and successful. I have recently completed a Level 2 and 3 diplomas in counselling skills, which has really helped me build on my natural empathy to better support the people I work with. EAs often find themselves being a listening ear, and having those tools has made a real difference. I am also confident using AI and tech and am always on the lookout for smart ways to make things easier and more efficient.
